Call for speakers

Speak at MidwestUX 2017!

MWUX is re-invented every year by a local committee in the host city. We are beyond excited that the conference founders have selected Cincinnati to host MWUX17!

This year we celebrate the rebirth of the Queen City and our kick-ass creative community. We’re here to lead the charge and empower our community to build breathtaking technology, products, and user experiences right here in the midwest.

We're seeking proposals from speakers and thinkers from all corners of the UX world to join us in Cincinnati October 12-14, 2017. We’re looking for big ideas, great stories, and fresh insights to inspire and inform our community.

If you have a talk or workshop idea on a UX related subject, please consider submitting a proposal.

Deadline for submission is April 16, 2017.

MWUX welcomes proposals from passionate people who will contribute to our UX community before, during the conference, and beyond. Both experienced and first-time speakers are encouraged to submit proposals. We are looking for speakers who:

  • Have insights, experiences, and knowledge to share with the UX community.
  • Have practiced and polished their talk and can comfortably deliver it to a room of about 250 people, or who have a half- or full-day workshop that will engage 15-30 people.
  • Are ready to collaborate with the MWUX team to provide the best possible attendee experience.
  • Will be an engaged participant in the conference beyond their speaking commitment.
  • Can demonstrate their topic in videos from previous conferences or a 5 minute practice video for new speakers.

MWUX17 will provide a variety of platforms for speakers and workshop leaders. Please consider which type of session would be most appropriate for your idea or topic.

Talks: 30-40 minute talk/presentation covering an issue or topic of interest. Talks are given in front of audiences in theater-style seating. Talks can be educational or inspirational; theoretical or practical.

Short Form Talks: Have you honed your presentation to pack a lot of information into a small amount of time? (It’s more difficult than it sounds!) A 10-20 minute short form talk might work best for you.

Workshops: Full- or half-day workshops give speakers the chance to delve more deeply into a subject with a smaller group of participants. Workshops have a more explicit instructional nature and involve direct interaction between the instructor and participants.

Excursions: Seen something you’d like to try in Cincinnati? Or are you a Cincy local and want to show off your place? Let us know! We’d love to arrange a group to see it.

As our committee reviews submissions, we will be looking for sessions that:

  • Illustrate the speaker’s depth of knowledge or hands-on experience with the subject matter.
  • Contain concepts general enough for attendees from a variety of industries and specialties to apply what they’ve learned.
  • Inspire or educate our attendees in interesting ways.
  • Explore new and emerging ideas or review the basics.
  • Are presented in visually clear and compelling ways by well-spoken presenters.

Our program team will review submissions and make selections that best fit MWUX 17. We’ll reach out to all of our submitters via email this summer.
